Darkglass Amps

Hey guys,

I apologize up front if these are stupid questions, but I've never really been the real "Gear Head."

I currently run through an SVT IV rig. I recently got a new Dingwall bass with a built-in Darkglass preamp. I'm looking into updating my rig. I was previously unfamiliar with Darkglass but am blown away by how good this bass sounds, powered by that preamp. I've always been a believer in getting the same brand cabinets as you have amps, etc as I feel they work better together. I guess my question is: Will a 900 Watt Darkglass amp through 2 4x10s be anywhere near as powerful as a 1200 Watt Amgeg SVT, also with 2 4x10s?

Maybe it's the 900 watt vs 1200 watt that scares me more than anything... but there's more to volume than just the wattage, right?

Loudness and power do not happen linearly. Forget power ratings as close as you are considering being of much benefit to getting louder, or not being as loud.
Concentrate on perceived loudness instead.

For instance, to sound twice as loud with the same compliment of speakers requires ten times the power. If you double your power with the same speaker arrangement, it will provide just a slight increase in loudness.

Conversely then, you really won't perceive much of a difference in loudness between 900 and 1200 Watts playing into the same set of speakers.

OTOH, given the same amount of power, if you double up on your speakers your loudness will approximately be double.
