Darkglass Element - Loading New Impulse Responses?

Allentown, PA!
Just got the Element and need some clarification on loading new IRs using Darkglass Suite.

What I'm assuming is that once you connect the pedal via USB and fire up the suite software, that whatever impulse you choose, or changes made to installed impulses using the editing interface, are automatically saved to what ever of the 5 sim choices you have the pedal set to?

I may be missing something of course, but there is no actual 'save' action on the software, nor any real indication (except for ears) that changes are saved.

Thanks for your insights!

Seacow Cabs and shift-line.com have free .wav file impulse responses that work with the Element. There are others available for a cost that I have not yet tried because not all .was files will upload to the Darkglass Suite cloud for storage. Not really sure why, I could be doing something wrong but regardless, there are dozens of cab/mic simulations already uploaded with options for every possible sound. But if you really want a Trace Elliot or TC Electronics cabsim - it's out there.

I would be eager to hear anyone else's thoughts or experiences with the Element.
Cheers.

Hello Darkglass Element users,

Wondering whether anyone is uploading User IR’s to their Elements?.

I’ve been having some mixed results in the stability of the user IR’s, two notable frustrations being the cloud function being quite opaque - there are 50 slots, but if you remove/delete your IR’s that doesn’t always free up the cloud space - put simply uploading new IR’s into a freshly purged and presumed empty space can trigger an error/warning "maximum slots used". But confusingly, not always - always a bit of trail and error.

Another frustration being, user IR’s successfully loaded to Element slots on the device just drop off. Loaded in the suite &/or iOS app, all working. Scroll to another IR slot and return to find device defaults to no IR or bypass, see image attached of error message in this instance.

For a device that is supposed to be so intuitive there is no need for an instruction manual (of any real depth at least) there’s certainly a learning curve - or maybe it’s just buggy as hell.

Anyone experiencing similar, have recommendations or other frustrations to share ?

In m'y short time with the element I experienced the same issue with the drop out of a preset with an external IR. I ended up not bothering because I had great sounds with Darkglass own IRs anyway, but that is a shortcoming indeed.

In the end I sold the element because it was overkill for my personal use, the Hotone Omni IR is enough for me (even with a lot of shortcomings as well, including uploading of external IRs …)

Cheers for the feedback, I find I go back to the preloaded presets too - they are pretty good. But that nagging need for an Ampeg or Celestion that isn’t included (at least as far as I can guess) is always there. I want to crack the user IR feature but much like you with the Hotone there seem to be better ‘ more stable (certainly cheaper) options hitting the market now.

Not quite trading in yet, but considering though.

Yes I have also run into similar issues with 3rd party IRs on my Element - many aren't stable. It's new tech that still has bugs but Darglass is working on it. Keep an eye out for firmware updates. The ability to update and improve itself is such a cool feature.

I like many of the pre-loaded amp/mic combos anyway and the Bluetooth connection to blend backing tracks and use the control suite is what makes the Element my favorite.

Too true, for such a new product it nails 90% of what it offers and it’s the potential for future improvement that certainly keeps it plugged in my board, in lieu of a specialist IR loader.

Just hope the Element doesn’t get left behind with suite updates - some lovely looking gear coming out getting some swanky features.

Another firmware update coming later this spring. Still, I would definitely like to check other lovely new comparable gear - any web links you can share? Much appreciated.
