Darkglass Microtubes X or Alpha Omicron?

Hi all!!
I have to choose between one of these 2 pedals for rock/hard rock/grunge...and the occasional solo ( think Cliff Burton style) which one will you purchase if you have that option ? I prefer the small footprint, less settings/tweaking and it`s more affordable
I use the Vintage microtubes for my dirt/growl/tubey sound, but I need another pedal for more overdrive and balls on certain songs..

I'd take the Alpha Omicron. But both would work.
Alpha has midrange grunt. The X has more topend.

I have the Omicron and the X7, if I had to choose one, I’d go with the X7. I think it’s much more versatile. I’m not sure between the X and Omicron.

I have both on my board, and i would say without a doubt alpha omicron. I would actually rather 2 seperate Ao's than 1 of each. So anyone out there in oz wanting to trade a Aom for an x hit me up hah. The x isnt bad, but i just LOVE the ao circuit

The AO circuit is genius, but so is the X.

Thanks for the input so far. After listening to demos on you tube , my ear leans toward the A-Omicron`s sound, but I really like the microtubes x as well...

If I had that option I`d probably go with the X7 as well, but the price range is quite steep. I really cannot afford it, I unfortunately have a budget and a lot of expenses this month. Our local distributor has only one x and omni left at a fairly good price, so I have to jump before some else buys them.

No, unfortunately not. Our distributor is almost 1400 Km away. That is 14 hours per car to get there

I literally have enough money for one purchase after all my expenses this month. I`m on a REALLY tight budget this December. I`m sure both of these pedals will emulate the sound I want. I just wanna get some 2nd opinions before taking the plunge. I have now watched every demo I could possibly find on the net and the AO sounds a little bit more what I`m after. I`m looking forward to stack up one of these with my vintage microtubes for extra extra balls

I AB’d a regular Alpha Omega and the Alpha Omicron extensively and my final conclusion resulted in me selling the AO. So, if you’re feeling the AOm, I think you should get the AOm. But, if you can, you should save up for the X7, cause its something special too IMO.

For sure , I don`t think I can go wrong either way, but my ears and gut is gravitating towards the A Omni.
I can always add a 2nd hand X or X7 later next year or so....maybe...

Ao is also the safest option. The x can be tricky and it ends up coming across alot different in the mix than any other od ive tried. Any setting i tried sounded very subby under the mix almost like i was running an octave pedal. Also lacked a bit of low mid meat on higher notes. The ao is just a really versatile solid standard option with great character.

Yeah, I noticed the AO is more versatile while watching/listening to the demo`s

Get the Ao now ... then save for the X7. Keep both or flip one down the track. I'm a bit ambivalent about most of the DG distortion engines* but am fascinated by the AΩ/Ao.

*Too 'modern' sounding for my tastes. My 'old school' Vintage Ultra is always on into any solid state backline.

I reckon I will purchase the Alpha Omicron now and see what the future holds in store.
Maybe down the line I might add the X or x7. My vintage microtubes (for dirt/drive/tube sound) and the AOmi (for distortion) will be sufficient for now I reckon. I just need one REALLY good distortion, to fatten my sound, enhance my tone and to make my bass cut through heavier passages..too many pedals can become a hassle.

OK, So I ordered the A - micron. I will probably have it by end next week. Once it arrived and I played around with it, I`ll drop an assessment.
