I was growing frustrated with the Fender Original 62. It had that familiar Fender sound but as the strings aged it became apparent that the upper mids were undefined. I fought to hear myself and I would rather have played my jazz.
After some research I went with the David Allen CS P. My goal was to get that much needed upper mid content and a more open top in general. What I ended up with was a lot more. David's CS P which many have referred to the 1088 is a VERY refined pickup. Never too much or too little of anything. It sits perfectly in the mix. You can feel AND hear your bass even with dead strings. In fact dead strings sound pretty amazing on it and I'm a fresh string kinda guy.
The CS P delivered in a few other areas as well. The low mids are punchier and very noticeable when thumbing while palm muting - the Gearzilla video review also points this out. Those mids are never lost as you bury the tone knob. The entire range of the knob is useful. Lows are more controlled with less bloom. Highs are still sweet but definitely more open. The low mid growl that I know this bass for is transferred right on through and the way that the upper mids of this pickup cause my OD to break up sounds so amazing.
