If you're not on Facebook:
"We are packing it up but NOT packing it in!"

DGSI is going through some exciting (and bittersweet) changes. and we want you all to be a part of our transition!

36 Walker Street has been our beloved rented home for decades. Sadly the building has sold, and as such we will be moving on November 30th to a new (nearby) location. The move will necessitate a downsizing of sorts and a restructuring of our business, but we are eager to open our new doors and to continue servicing our treasured community.

As you might imagine, after 44 years in business we have accumulated a number of accessories, instruments, and shop paraphernalia that we will be selling at very fair prices between October 5-10th.

Please call us at 212.274.1322 to book an appointment to view what we have on offer, as we will be adhering to Covid safe practices, allowing for a certain number of attendees per hour slot.

Bittersweet for sure—I bought my first axe from them 15+ years ago and did not get the chance to visit since moving back to the area from Chicago right before COVID hit. I understand Sam has some kind of sister shop in Jersey now, too.

I am curious how their business will change with the downsizing.

I never had the gumption enough to give them a photo. Both Dave and Mike Weatherly asked if I wanted to, a few times over the years, but it just didn't feel right somehow.
But they always treated me like I was no different than any of the folks on that wall.

My VERY old photo was always right behind the desk where you pay. I sometimes would think about how many people saw it and thought to themselves "who the hell is THAT guy?" I wonder where it will be now?

After all the good advice you've given here and the good you've done the bass community, Ed, I think they'd be grateful for a photo for their new place.

I don't think it would be wise to describe a moving sale that way. Doesn't mean his pricing is normally not fair? See what I mean?
When you have your moving sale, you can use whatever language you find most efficacious. Since most of us here know the shop (and many of us know Dave and the folks who work there) personally, no, it doesn't mean that his normal prices are "not fair".

Do you play double bass? Or are you just whacking the nest to see what flies out?

You should perhaps read the whole sentence :

As you might imagine, after 44 years in business we have accumulated a number of accessories, instruments, and shop paraphernalia that we will be selling at very fair prices between October 5-10th.

What was being sold were items that were not what was ordinarily sold at the shop. Large quantities of stray tuning machines, folding chairs, tables, pianos, music stands, etc, etc. So there's no comparison being made there. You might call it a 'stoop sale,' 'tag sale,' or 'garage sale' depending on where you live.
