David J/Love and Rockets tuning a half step up??

Hey all,

Not sure if this is the right Forum for this but here goes. I've been learning some Love And Rockets songs, and it seems they are easier to play if they were tuned a half step up. The most reason one I am working on is No Worries, there are definitely open strings being played, what I thought was a detuned E string to low D, but it is D#. Others are So Alive and No Big Deal.

I've done a search and found nothing. Has anyone else come across this, or heard of a band tuning a half step up?

Do you tune your basses to D standard? I would call that tuning a half step down. A lot of bands use that tuning, KISS and Guns N' Roses are two just off the top of my head.

Led Zep tuned half up and half down on a lot of songs also off top of my head.

If a small adjustment makes the vocals better anyone would do it.

It seems like a lot of their songs can be tuned F, A#, D#, G#. I could just put a capo on the first fret, but that's kind of weird on a bass

It's definitely possible that they used that tuning for whatever reason, possibly for vocals like @Killing Floor said. Are those other two songs you mentioned ones that sound like they are tuned up?

Yes. Well, it's just easier to play if tuned up a half step or capoed. Both bass lines revolve around an F and A#.
