If you're interested in orchestral playing, I'd recommend Meredith Johnson, the principal bassist of the Winnipeg Symphony. I'm positive he will get your playing in shape. Besides being an excellent player (who has studied with just about everyone), he has a lot to say about orchestral articulation and how to practice.

Thanks for the replies guys. I had thought about contacting WSO members, but on top of not knowing if any of them taught, I'm really not sure how to get ahold of them. Short of rooting around on Facebook or whatever and hoping that they log in more than once a year.

Hey moles,

Just get a hold of your local AF of M, (musician's union), they'll give you the numbers. Most orchestra players teach. Best of luck to you in your bass journey.

Hey, I didn't see this one when it went by. I'd highly recommend Steve Hamilton. Steve's a great musician -- jazz, classical, whatever -- very well-trained and a good teacher. You can reach him through the Conservatory.
