Double Bass DB Passion

Hi all!

I'm a bass (guitar) player for 20 years,
I never play double bass and i don't have one.
I know just a very little about (read) note, but fair to say that I can't read note.

I always have passion on DB and I'd like to learn to play (and read) Double Bass from zero, classically.

If I can manage two hour per day minimum, how long will I take until I can play well (say until I can proclaime my self to teach other novice in DB)?

Sorry it maybe stupid question. But I'd like to know your answer please.

In my case, I studied the dB over 30 years ago, don;t have one but I do plan on getting one. I am an electric bass player. That being said, learning the DB for me was a lot like martial arts in that I got a great teacher who guided me to a pont where I played in tune ( for the most part !!) bowed fairly well and displayed a good tone with vibrato. I made fast progress in 15 months in junior college. Hard work paid off. Members of this side of the forum will tell you their story but its a major investment in time and money. Unlike the electric bass you can't plug in and sound like Jaco. I say do it, you will love it......................:cool:

And I think that's still low! There's no way to answer that question. I will tell you that to learn quickly you need to take care of a few things. Get a good instrument, professionally set up, a good bow, a metronome and a good teacher. The rest is up to natural ability, how much you practice, how effectively you practice...

Yes I'm sure there's no shortcut to be a good player, esp DB.. and It must be not easy..
Never stop learning practicing & listening etc process.
