Dead pickup

Hi

I play an '83 Fender Jazz. Recently, the front (neck) pickup, which is usually really loud when soloed - lost almost all it's volume and now sounds very quiet (almost non existent) and distorted.

Does this sound like I should buy new pickups? Or is something I can repair?

Get an ohmmeter and check your connections. It could be something as simple as a bad solder joint.
