Dean Accoustic Electric Bass - can a lefty just reverse the strings

Yes, but you also need to change the nut and maybe, depending on the bass, the bridge to. Unless your really hooked on the Dean, try Rondomusic.com. I know they have an electric accoustic there. Being a lefty myself, I've purchased several basses from them.
I have that bass! Good bass for the price...although I got mine for $90 used off Craigslist.
It has a REAL thick neck, so if you have big hands (unlike me) that helps. Feels almost like an upright, and on a chair, can be played like one LOL.
The oversized body projects sound well too.
I imagine you'd have to switch the nut around, but other than that, you should be good to go.

If you plan on plugging in, the controls will be on the bottom.

Speaking as a lefty, the inherent problem here is the bridge. It's a "compensated" bridge, meaning it slants from the G to the E string so that the intonation will be "close". If you swapped strings the intonation would be way off.

The nut swap is an obvious one, and by far the easiest one.
Routing a new channel for the bridge after the existing channel has been plugged is way beyond the abilities and tools of even the majority of luthiers. Unless You reverse the bridge, your intonation is way off and the bass is unplayable with other instruments.
If You don't care about the intonation being off, the swap is an easy one.
