Decisions decisions decisions...

I am looking to save up for a new bass. My current choices are between two used and a new bass.

Fender Jazz American (new)
Warwick Thumb bolt 4 string (two j pup)
Lakland Skyline 44/64 P bass

Anyone have experience with these and have any recommendations on them? The warwick and Lakland are both in great condition. I tried them both out. Good action, and no buzz. Thanks!

Wait... if you're saving up for a bass, how will you know those used ones will still be available? :P
Either way, we really don't have enough information about you, what you like/don't like, your band situation etc. I'm going to resort to...
Try them all and see which stands out as "best" to you. Try to play them through your amp, and if you can, at a band practice/gig, which is where you'll get a good feel for it.
Of the three choices... I wouldn't be able to choose as I don't particularly like any of them.

You will find fans of each of those basses. It will depend on who responds to this thread. And chances are pretty good the majority are going to say Fender, simply because it's the one of those three that most people here own.

I'd say research each one individually as much as you can, and by all means play them. And more than one of each. Keep in mind that anyone of those 3 basses can be set up however you want, and don't let a great setup on one dissuade you from another that might have dead strings that are an inch off the neck. :)

Good luck.

Well.. I have tried all three and liked them all. I guess I was looking more for negative critiques on them. Also, I guess I posted this because writing it out kinda helps me think it out better in order to make a decision. After posting I figured I can get a fender jazz whenever.. they will always be around. ( I work in a music store and can get a decent price on equipment, plus layaway is an option) we also carry some warwick, but not Lakland.
I think I will go with the Lakland... I don't have a band, and never played with one. ( I've played about 8 years) I mostly play for my pure enjoyment and maybe play in a band in the future. I dig the p bass because it has an awesome punch and low end tone. My only concern is that I do like the idea of playing a lead, solo like style as well, which calls for a mid/trebly tone from a j.

i have a lakland p with flats. it is the best bass i have ever owned. i do solos on it and it works out quite well, with the tone turned up.
as everybody will tell you, it all depends on you. all the instruments are great.
good luck
