Hey guys,
I've been planning on making a custom bass from scratch. It'll have Bubinga wings, and Purpleheart/Padauk going through the middle of the body (Not neck-thru). I'll put a Zebrawood top on. I'll have J/MM Bartolini pickups. But what I need to decide on is how many strings
I love my 4-String Ibanez GSR100 (Even though it's a ****ty bass) which I defretted myself
. I love slapping, and If I go with a 6 string, I feel I might not have my normal slappage. A 4 has good spacing, but I feel like getting those lower notes. I've been thinking on a 5-string fretted.
Once I've decided on the strings, I have to decide on good neck woods. I was thinking a maple/purpleheart 5-piece. I'm thinking about an ebony fingerboard, but I want a different feel.
So can anyone give me some good ideas for my bass?
Thanks a lot,
Darren
P.S. The body will be shaped like a Conklin mixed with a Carl Thompson
