Just scored a 98 MIM p bass for 260$. Thinking of switching to some Seymour Duncans and keeping it, or listing it on CL for 300. What do you think?

I bought a 98 MIM Jazz bass about 10 years ago. Never bonded with it, almost traded it in on a CV 60s P bass. Decided to have it set up and ended keeping it. It's my main bass now. I'm a hobby player so what do I know.

Thinking the Steve Harris ones, so I will have a podunk signature bass and save 700 bucks.

You're assuming that you'll GET $300 for it, I'd expect that you'll get the usual lowballers offering you $250.

Not enough of a "spread" to justify flipping it. If you bought it for $100 bucks and could resell it for a couple hundred or more.... yeah...

I don't care as long as I break even. I figure that I play different basses for free and see what I really fall in love with. Sorta like speed dating. If I like it, then I can mod it up if I want.

I second the SD QP's. I have them in a Squier Affinity and they sound amazing!!!

You are correct. I am not picky about rosewood versus maple. Maple is brighter, but not a deal breaker

If you like the way it plays I'd say keep it. But then I've never really been a flipper of basses so take that with a grain of salt.

EMG Geezer PUP should also be considered IMHO. Ymmv.

Cant go wrong with a P bass. End of story.
Being an inexpensive acquisition, mod it all you want to. Use it as a chassis to find out what you like/dont.
quarter pounders would be awesome. Could do a Dimarzio Will Power. Even go the EMG route with a passive GZR or go full active with a original EMG P and get an approximation of a Spector.

might be good to keep it just to have something more traditional than a Jackson. Was looking for a 5 string one, but got a pretty decent price this one. I also got an Ashdown 1x15 extension cab. That will be hard to hide from the wife

What don't you like about the current sound? What sound do you want that's different? It seems that the answers to those questions drive the pickup replacement question.

I put the Geezer Butler pickup in my MIM PBass and am very happy with it. You also should try some light to medium gauge flats.

I have never used flats in my life. I would think they go dead very fast and sound too hollow. Are they easier to play? I couldn't think of what other advantage to them for use in rock and metal.
