Deer Antlers

And I misspoke with the last one, it is TRUE bone. These are not the same as animals with horns and it is NOT the same as regular animal bone, ( i.e. thigh bone etc..) Think about it like this. When an animal ( any animal) reaches maturity, their bones no longer grow. A deer antler grows every year and drops off in late fall, then regenerates. This growth is dependent on a couple factors, the most important being diet ( i.e. mineral intake).

So no, deer antlers ( And I am strictly speaking of white tails here) are NOT made of bone. Sorry if I made it sound confusing, but a Google search ought to clear it up for you. I have done many things with white tail antlers over the years, including carving guitar nuts, and I stand by my assessment as to their usage for that application.

I have used buffalo horn and camel bone. Worked great. Some sellers post sales of it.

It is a cool thought of having deer antler on your bass. Even cooler if you play in a country band :) very creative!
