IMO, Bob Babbitt is THE unsung hero of the bass world. As well as the Motown subs for JJ, he has a massive string of gold records to his name. Like, literally hundreds. Check the BP archives for a great article on him.

RE Inner City blues: There's two bass tracks going on there. they sound like the same bass so I guess they're both Bob Babbitt.

Yeah - of course. Whoaeeeh. You´re right, it´s grooving like hell.
If you take a look at the most of the Motown stuff Lp´s, you could hardly find any credits to Jamerson -
but Bob Babbit seems to have never been on this planet.
He´s one of THE CATS.

Thanks for the help, I guess I was expecting a bigger selection. Does anybody know of a book that has lots of transcriptions of Jamerson's lines? I can read well, so no tab is needed.
For those of you that have The "shadows" book, which songs are transcribed? I don't want to drop $30 on a book that just has few samples in it. I am particularly interested in the Temptations, 4 tops, stevie wonder and Marvin Gaye songs.

Drop the 30 its got a bunch of songs. good, complete transcriptions of most of them.

I dont have a list but believe me I'll be suprised if you think that its not a good deal.

After snooping around a bit, I found you have my Jaco "Amerika" bass tab, but no credit?? If you're going to list a tab and not give credit where due, it doesn't give me much incentive to send along some others I have for your sight... Blues Brothers "Soulman" in a more detailed and accurate style.

Regarding the orignal topic, Definitive Jamerson tracks, one I believe is an excellent example of his style is "What's Happening Brother" from the "Whats Going On" album (CD)

Well, I dropped my 30 today and came home with the book. It's pretty incredible, even though all I have done is play along with the CD's so far. FOr somebody that's only played for a couple of years, I thought I did a pretty nice job keeping up with the CDs. I'm glad I can read! I never realized how many key changes and complex progressions some of that motown stuff has.

5 minutes to buy...

1 hour to play through...

A lifetime to master...
