Defret Process: Help with a Chipped Fretboard?

After a good bit of online research, I started defretting a crap Ibanez of mine just to try something new with it. I removed the frets using a little screwdriver that could slide under the edge really well and a pair of end-nippers, but I still got a lot of significant chipping on just about every fret.

Any suggestions? Sand it down (I would probably take a 1/4 inch off the neck get all the dings out...)? Fill it with something? Give up? I know there are a lot of bass defret threads, so I'm sorry if I'm asking for information that's already on here somewhere. Thanks for your help!

since you're going fretless maybe you use some veneers to put the fretlines. Then some epoxy ( system 3 or something similar)to finish. Theres a good chance you won't be able to see the chipping when it's all said and done. I've never done this before but I think that's decent advice.
