Deluxe MIM Jazz?

Hello all,

My friend pointed this bass out to me: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

My question: is it a MIM deluxe Jazz or not? The guy seems to think it's a standard but I have never seen a standard with those tuners or headstock. But then again I have never seen a deluxe jazz with only 3 knobs for the onboard EQ. I do not know the history of these basses and if at some point in time they were passive. I am looking for a back up bass and this is a candidate...if it's the real deal. Anyone?

It's jazz bass for sure... U can tell a jazz bass by the shape of the 2'pick ups (long and thin).'I have one. But... It is not an American standard jazz bass.'it's Mexican made and therefore is made of cheaper woods. The sound quality is better on the american,'but I know people who buy Mexican basses, save $500-$700 bucks, and add there own brand of pick-ups they like later on... They sound good after they are jazzed up to your own specs. Good luck.. And check out fender.com's bass section to get a good visual on there MANY jazz and precision basses, including the Mexican/ squire brands. Good luck!

The pic matches other pics (headstock and tuning keys) of a few Mim fender jazz deluxes online. There's quite a few examples on eBay. Sorry about the misunderstand in my 1st reply. I didn't mean to lecture u on crap u obviously already know. Peace...

No worries, man. I was just confused by the headstock which appears to be from a deluxe jazz while the body appears to be from a standard jazz. Senator appears to have nailed it.

Fender has catalogs online back to 2006. If you look at page 121 of the 2006 catalog you can see that bass although not the color (and the blue color listed is not the one mentioned above but colors change from year to year). You've got your answer this time but next time the online catalog archives (Fender is not the only brand that has one) can be your friend.

Just find out the serial number onv the back of the headstock and get on fenders site and find out exactly what your looking for. Country, model, year etc..
I was doing for a standard mim jazz on ebay and for $200 I got a 2001 mim deluxe jazz. I guess they didn't know what they had. I know new they were about $550-600 so I know a 5 stringer would at least be ...i don't know $50 more???
