Dennis Chambers playing Tool.....!

So weird, I literally just watched this this morning. I think he did an amazing Job on this.
It's funny that DC doesn't even realize that The clanky, Trebly stuff is actually the Bass.
He's my fav drummer and a bucket list jam session wish. Even though I'm nowhere near the quality he's used to 
Yeah me too, but he was feeling it towards the end. That grin as he was vibing was great.
This popped up on my YouTube feed the other week and I was really glad it did as I loved it. Dennis is one of my favourite drummers and it was cool to see him pushed into something that he wouldn't normally play. He absolutely nailed it. It just goes to show his immense talent in that he was able to listen to a rhythmically complex piece like this and digest it before improvising his own take on it.
After seeing that video pop up on my feed for a while, this thread caused me to actually watch the video. It reminds of a video of John Pattitucci transcribing an Urban Gospel song and sounding like he was raised in the Church of God in Christ.
Apologies if I'm totally conflating Christian sects but...wasn't he? I mean, I know he is (or was) Born Again, that's gotta make the connection to Gospel more than just coincidental, no?
No, he is a devout Catholic. He obviously is fluent in a lot music that is adjacent to Urban Gospel, but that is like saying Denis Chambers knows Rock so Tool should be a breeze.
The way he's bringing the Funk into Schism is ... mind boggling.
I've seen this video a while back, but skipped to the playing part to listen to it again. The way he's dancing around with his fills but landing rock solid on the one is just - a very cool alternative to what is on the original recording.
