Man! I dig that. I've been looking at one on Sweetwater. From everything I've seen, that's one of the nicest jazz basses out there.
The ideal bass for me
- Stays in tune
- Takes and holds a setup
- Balances on a strap
- Has a usable signal
- Doesn't look awful
This one is just about the perfect bass for me. 32" Warmoth P-bass with old time Bartolini pup's.
Fender 2015 road worn (I mean REALLY road worn !) MIM p bass neck, 1.56" nut width
Squire 1999 two pieces alder p bass body with paint removed down to original polyester finish
Fender pure vintage 63 pickups
Fender nickel rounds

Exact same sound as The eyes of a stranger from The Payolas !
Put it together myself and oh boy, it rumbles and screams ! Definitely not for smooth jazz.
Also makes people wanna dance on disco songs at high volume.

A Steinberger XL-2 design, with pivot plate, but with 5 strings at an 18mm spacing. My Status Graphite Streamline 5er is close, and has a weight advantage over my 'berger 4-string due to the different graphite construction technique, but doesn't have the pivot plate.

A good P, with a good stable neck, and good pickups, set up well, with decent rounds .....

Based on the limited number of basses I've played I would say Jazz body with a P pickup in the neck and a MM pickup in the bridge. Relatively light, thicker neck like a P. Active/Passive. I just lucked into a bass that is darn near these specs, except it has a P body.

5 String with 2 pickups, with fantastic complex neck pickup tone, and a great jazzish 50/50 tone. Classic look but with a touch of fancy.
