I put a hipshot xtender on most of my four strings for drop D. I play a 5 string tuned to A in one band and we sometimes play songs in drop C.

I wads told hipshot made a tuner for this at one time but doesn't anymore. Does anyone know of a company that does?

All the tuners on the same side of a headstock are the same. If you put an E string in the Xtender it detunes the E to D. If you put a high C into that Xtender it detunes it to Bb. Logic dictates it could detune a B string but no way to tell what would happen without experimenting.

I have an Xtender on the B string of all, well, both of my 5-string basses. I've been doing this for several years with my 5-string basses.

On my basses, which have really good B strings, dropping down to A works well. Don't hit the string too hard, it's just a bit flabby. But plucked carefully, it's great. Tuned down to A, the C# can be a little woofy, but it's effective still.

It's more of an effect for me, but I've found musical uses for it here and there.

If you mean an Xtender that can go down to two different notes, Hipshot does have that option called a DoubleStop™. You can choose the DoubleStop™ option when you select the tuner key style and is about $35 extra.

No, I want to drop the second string down a full step and the normal extender lever won't clear the other tuners.

It isn't the tuner exactly, the lever won't clear the other tuners. I contacted Hipshot and they said at one time they made a tuner for this purpose, but not anymore.

I’m not following you. The lever rotates on an axis that’s parallel to the tuning post. And it rotates down and away from the other keys.
Only way I’m aware to force it to touch other tuners is if you put the Xtender between 2 standard tuners. I would not even think to do that.
Or are you thinking the lever has the self awareness to know what string you loop into the post? If an XTender can drop an E to as low a C it can drop a B to an A. Lots of people use Xtender on 5 string basses.

So are you trying to achieve something like the Zon Hyperbass which has four D-tuners where all the levers clear each other?

This is a five string tuned A, D, G, C, F. I want to drop the D to C and the lever won't clear the tuner on the A.

So you want to drop a string in the middle of the register instead of what the drop tuner is for.
Maybe a keyboard?
They used to make one for this purpose, not anymore though. I was asking a serious question.

This thread has some discussion. Mostly about the extended level Hipshot used to offer and others questioning why the OP would do such a thing. However on page 4 someone posts some pictures of E and B mounted drop tuners he modified to work on the same headstock. Unfortunately the pictures are a bit blurry on my phone. Maybe you can reply to the thread and get some new pics or maybe your phone works better.
