DI recommendation for passive bass

Hi, all.
I need a recommendation for an inexpensive DI box. I'm doing an outdoor Church service 1 week per month through the summer. The service is streamed to our FB Group, so I need to get the bass into the PA.

My signal path is Fender Jazz>Boss GT1B>Fender R100. Amp will be used more as a monitor, so I need a pass through. Prefer to keep price under $200. Thanks in advance.

For under $200 go get a Radial.
You can get a cheap $30 DI that will "do the job" and being live, no-one will know

The DI out on the R100c works, but it's got some noise. It's also post eq.

In the "inexpensive but still pretty nice" category of DI's, I'd point you to the Radial Stagebug or Radial ProDI.

Whirlwind Imp 2 is cheap and gets it done also. I have one for exactly that purpose GT1B to FOH at church.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Whirlwind isn't in stock near me, so I'm leaning towards the Radial ProDI.

I have several Radial Pro DI for sound company use. They are great. Like everything else Radial... near to indestructible. I would point you to a couple of used Radial BassBones in the GFS here. Similar DI guts but with some stage friendly features.

There is the good-ol’ Tech21 Sansamp Bass Driver DI for $208 (a coupon will get you under $200 for a new one).

There’s also the Switchcraft 314DI AudioStix for $99. I use that one a lot because it’s so compact.

You can find a Markbass Super Pro DI used for around $90 (discontinued).

Can’t go wrong with a Radial or if you can find a used Neve RNDI which can go for around $200 used they sound awesome and well worth the $. Also can’t go wrong with a Tech 21 Sansamp if you want some tone shaping options.

The rule of thumb I’ve heard is that a passive bass goes best with an active DI and an active bass goes best with a passive DI. This is probably not a strict rule but rather a general guideline.

Active. Passive. Both. Sound. Massive. The ancient advert had a truck tire (and the truck) parked on top of it. I A/B'd one to a Whirlwind and couldn't believe how much bigger, deeper and better Dana's box sounded. Hearing is believing. No hype in the circuit- just first rate quality and wiiide azz freq. response!

Countryman DT85........I've used them my entire career on pro touring stages worldwide. Always up to the task. Clean, quiet, phantom or battery powered, and built like a tank. A de facto industry standard, with a 40 year track record.
Lot's of 'em used in studios, as well.
Accepts line or speaker level signals.
Around $150 from many different sources, including Sweetwater.

I have Samson MD1 pro and Mdi active. Great Dis both for your pasive bass get the active one. It works with 9 volt or phantom power. It will boost your signal and is super quiet.

Behringer BDI21. Inexpensive and works great! Don’t need anything else.

If you're putting the DI after your Boss effect, any passive DI should get you there. If you are putting the DI directly after the bass, you might want active. A passive DI can load your pickups more than your Boss pedal. That has never been a big deal for me in live situations, though.

I own 3 DIs and use them all regularly:

Radial ProD2 (passive, two channel version of the ProDI) comes to every gig, always. There's often someone who is very happy to find out I have a spare channel. You could also send FOH pre- and post-fx signals with this one box.

Countryman Type 85 is always a good choice. High enough input impedance for a piezo pickup, if needed. The battery is nice in case you can't get phantom. I wouldn't hesitate to use this anywhere, in any signal chain.

Radial J48 works great for passive or active bass. It has more features than the others, but you won't use them on bass. It's my favorite DI for acoustic guitars that have built in preamps. Requires phantom.

All 3 of these boxes are lifetime investments, and are good deals used or new. You will enjoy receiving immediate thumbs ups from every sound crew for the rest of your career. Make sure to mark them as yours any time you leave the house!

I would definitely get an active DI if it's specifically for a passive bass. The Radial J48 would be my first choice in that price range. The J48 is a classic for a reason. It's sturdy enough for any situation and the sound quality is good enough for major recording studios. The price is VERY close to your max limit though.

If you want something cheaper the Radial Pro48 is a great choice too.

If you want something smaller there's the Radial Stagebug SB-1.

You really can't go wrong with Radial. The sound is superb, studio quality and in my 30 years as a touring musician and studio owner I've never ever seen a faulty Radial. Rock solid!

You could just set your eq flat. It'd be the same as a di box. Noise, you are playing a jazz bass.
