Did Bill Wyman Do The Right Thing?

:atoz:

Yeah, My dad was a high school teacher. There was no pulling the wool over his eyes. :atoz:

Geez, that reminds me of coming home from my first concert.

My buddy's dad was our school head counselor, picked us up in a Chevy Vega wagon.

3 reeking, giggling 15 year old idiots in his car and he never said a thing. I always thought he was so square! Guess not.

Am I OT enough yet?

Dad started teaching high school in 1955. By the time I came around he had seen everything. There was absolutely no fooling him on anything. That had both negative and positive results on me.

Wyman is 7 years older than Jagger. He's 82 now.

When he hung it up. he said he was too getting too old for it. He could see the forthcoming ridiculous spectacle of 60-70 year old men prancing about like they are still 22 and wanted no part of it.
Ya, how ridiculous they are selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide.

BB King played live all the way up to 6 months prior to his passing at 89. I think the old bluesmen are the model for the Stones as far as longevity. I believe they will continue to play until Mick or Keith’s health gives out or they drop dead.

^ This. Albert Collins was diagnosed with cancer 6 months before he passed and continued to tour until right before his death.

It seems to be very common in the blues world and something I'm hoping to avoid.

Keef has stated he was going to follow the bluesman templet.

Last time I saw The Stones was 2016 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Once again they kicked butt and showed how it's done. Much better than those coked up early 80's shows. No doubt they will do it again when I see them in June at Soldier Field.

Sure Mick sings the lower octave and doesn't growl like years past but you can't deny the sheer force and energy not to mention a long list of classic songs. Always scratch my head at those who criticize the Stones just because they continue to do what they’ve always done for over half a century. It's one thing to not like the music, it’s another to throw jabs cause they continue to deliver in their advanced years.

I wanted to throw the question out there. I was reading about Bill Wyman's decision to quit the Rolling Stones and I wonder if, in hindsight, it was the right thing to do. He stands by his decision and seems quite happy with it in interviews I've read. What do you guys think? Good decision or not?

I'm amazed more don't say, "Thanks, but I've had fun but I'm done".

There is an amount of money and personal growth I feel a need to accomplish, after that, there is time for other things hopefully.

I kind of liken playing music to making love. You don’t stop doing it just because you’ve done it before. You do it because you love it.

I agree if you are done there’s no need to stick around. It wasn’t as if Bill was going to expand his role in the Stones and start writing and producing though he had been doing that for other groups as far back as the 60’s.

I know he has written a few songs for the Stone early on, but he has said as much that it was difficult to get his songs on albums with Andrew Oldham, Mick and Keith doing most of the writing and producing.

They make plenty of time for other things, but they just plain love playing.

You know, ever since the early 80's, people have been saying that the Stones are way too old to pull it off, yet here they still are, and pulling it off as well as they ever have.

Thought I read somewhere what Bill hated most about touring was flying.

Actually his decision to cease touring was part of an interview about a Stones book he put out.

Bill seemed to be the archivist of the Stones back in his era. Really good with dates, times and places. While writing the book, he realized the odds of having a tragic event due to their flying schedule, appeared overdue by most odds.

He ceased touring.
