Did I get a "golden ticket" with this bass?

Has anybody else ordered a bass online, only to receive it and be blown away with the look of it being so much different than you expected (in a good way)? I've always bought my guitars in person at a shop, so I always saw what I was buying before I bought it. I'm attaching a "what I ordered vs what I got" side by side picture. I'm super stoked!!!

There are people who don't like "streaky" wood - they like uniformly brown fretboards and such. I think they're nuts. Your bass is fantastic!

Thanks! I was going to be perfectly fine with it being straight grain and plain like all the other pictures and videos I've seen. I totally love the flame though

Yeah, I was VERY surprised. I know people pay extra to get that flame look on other guitars. Couldn't believe my luck

I bought a "black" bass a while back. Turned out to be a translucent black over flamed maple. Score!

It's an Ibanez PNB14E-OPN. It's only $279, so it could be a veneer, but, it's definitely wood as that's what the OPN stands for is for open pore for the wood. Either way, it's real wood.

Yup!! I know how nice the feeling is! The 1st bass I ever bought online had a picture of a "violet burst" that was the best color that I could settle for. When it arrived the finish and top was MUCH prettier and I was really happily surprised . Nice bass!! Yes, like it was said earlier, go get a lottery ticket STAT

That's really sweet. I have a couple Ibanez basses, I think the next level up...round $4-500. They sound really nice plugged in. Enjoy!

Even inexpensive basses occasionally end up with beautiful wood, luck of the draw. That may be figured veneer, but so what, it's gorgeous.

Holy cow, I too have the Ibanez acoustic pictured and mine looks exactly like the one on the left but would love the one on the right. As others mentioned, go buy yourself a powerball ticket.

Beautiful top on that. It kinda reminds of some of the opposite situations I've seen. With the highly regarded Squier VM 70's jazz basses for example, I have seen some (we're talking natural finish here) of them have a random piece of the body with visible figure on it right next to plain grain. No sonic effect but it just looks weird.

That looks a lot like ovangkol or the shedua top on my Wal. You deffo lucked out with it. The wood can have this sort of flaming that shows up in different lights. My Wal can look quite dull or super flamed like that depending on the lighting.

The website states just "African Mahogany" which sounds like a suspiciously generic term unless it specifically is khaya. Either way, you got a gorgeous instrument there!

That's cool how yours looks different under different light. Mine doesn't pop as much under brighter light, so I think ours are similar in that regard. Definitely has to have the right lighting conditions.
