long story short here are the facts
-dropped out of highschool
-thought for sure I was gonna be a hot shot music star by now
-Im 17
-the only things I have any skill on is bass, Im not athletic or smart
With each passing day I become more and more depressed. I thought a couple years ago, I would for sure be endorsed and playing in a studio or teaching, something in music . I honstley feel as if I will never become anything in music. I had my hopes up so high. Now, I just dont know. Music is the one thing I have to make a carrier out of. I will always play but, someday, I might have to play bass in my cardboard box of a house. What can I do in music that will support me? I really want to become a studio/session musician. I do not even know were to start, I was thinking of trying to get endorsed with Ibanez and going to namm trying to get noticed or something. Can you please help me? I am having serious angxiety about this. If you wanna hear me play I'll post links to my myspace and youtube.
Thank you
Garret Fry,
No. You didn't ruin your life. You've just put it on hold. Now, you need to take it off hold. Complete school. Do whatever you need to do to continue your education. Get gigs on the side, whatever. Finish your education.
At.
All.
Costs.
Don't make the same mistakes I did and put your education on hold while you chase dreams. There's nothing wrong with chasing dreams, you just have to make sure there's a contingency in place - to paraphrase Robert Burns, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
Otherwise, you'll be older, wiser, and feeling the crunch from more educated young 'uns who can't tell **** from shinola, but have a piece of paper that says they can.
I just saw this on another forum I subscribe to and it is so simplistic, so friggin true, it hurts.
"Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss
Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault , so don't whine about your mistakes,
learn from them.
Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time..
Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one."
No, you didn't ruin your life. Yet...your move. Make it a good one.
