I had no idea my thumb was different than anybody else's until I read Jaco's bio about the "bass playin thumbs" and saw the picture.
Anyways, my point is that this actually makes it much more difficult to slap. If I put my thumb all the way back it has a curve, pretty hard to slap or doublethumb with it. I have to hold my thumb straight, which is how most people are fully extended (I think.)
