Did they ever make a Mexican Deluxe Jazz not active?

Any comments about the Mexican Deluxe Jazz appreciated.
I dont want an active bass.

If you don't want an active, buy the Mexican Standard. The only real difference is the tone circuit.

Well, the pickups are different too. "Dual-Coil Ceramic Noiseless" says the specs.

trav, if it's a matter of "a great deal you'd be a fool to walk away from", then I fully understand your interest. If it were me and the bass was everything I was looking for, I'd seriously consider it. Also, if you want "that bass", but don't want an active one, you have other options. Maybe a passive/active circuit could be the solution. A control plate from a Reggie Hamilton, along with the appropriate electronics, should fit the bill. And it would keep you from having an extra hole doing nothing in either the control plate or the bottom edge of the body.

But if what you're looking for is something non-specific and generally passive, awilkie is right…get a Standard Jazz. If nothing else, you'd have more color options to choose from.

The Deluxe Active Jazz Bass is a fine instrument but its main claim to fame is that it is active, which you do not want. So probably not the bass for you. As our mad friend says the only other difference between it and a standard Jazz is the noise canceling pickups so perhaps your best option would be to buy any passive Fender Jazz Bass, new or used, that suits your fancy and then put noise canceling pickups in it.
