Diff between older and new Modulus q5 with same Pups

I am strongly thinking of dropping the cash for a new Modulus Q5. I can get it for 3500.00 shipped with No Tax. My buddy (who is a much better player then I) said that the newer ones are better although the electronic and the pickups seem to be the same. Does anyone know what makes the new ones better or is that not true.

The newer ones have a truss rod in the neck, but I can't say that makes them better or worse. I know plenty of guys that think the truss rod less models are better.

I have yet to play a crappy Modulus, so I think you'd be okay either way.

My favorites were my 3 pre "adjustment rod" models.
a '96, '94 and '99.

I've had two "adjustment rod" models and I had a custom one made and IMO it's not worth 3x the price of a used one. And I had like, 5 Mods at one time so... ;)

There's some really cool pieces that come across here in the Classifieds. Save your money and buy two. :)

Does the necks on the modulus even need a truss rod? I thought the composite neck doesnt ever warp or do I have that wrong..I guess I am just confused with the truss rod on a composite neck.

In some cases - YES, the neck will move. It doesn't happen to all of them but some do warp or "relax" after time. I had my M92-5 repaired by Gerry Dorsch but before that it developed really high action.

My 1998 Q6, with truss rod, has never needed an adjustment.
