Difference between Aero and Lakland PU in DJ

I went through 10 pages of info, but could not find what I'm looking for.

I've played the DJ5 with newer lakland PU and love the feel and sound of this bass. I was about to pull the trigger until a used one popped up semi localy. The used one however has Aero PU, and trying it is a little difficult as I need to drive almost 3 hours. I wouldn't want to drive 6 hours to come back empty handed.

So.....for those of you that have tried both, can you tell me what difference in sound I can expecxt from these pickups?

Thanks

I heard some sounclips of a Dj with Aeros and with Lakland, dont' remember where though.

I'd say you get the cheapest one you can. Both will sound awesome.
IMO the Aeros are cleaner and the Laklands have a little more bite and a little more hi-fi vibe.

The difference where very very subtle.
Any of them would be great and make u happy.

I say get the cheapest or your fav color combo between them.
On the other hand the Aeros are not found in DJs anymore so the freak in me would get that one. You can always get another Lakland w Lakland pickups in the future.

Also - if it does have the Aeros, you can have Lakland change to the new Lakland pickups for a reasonable price!!!

as stated though, you should be happy with either....it is not as big of a difference as say, the Barts and the LH3 system in the -94 and -02 series etc...

Thanks guys

I just wanted to make sure I'm not driving all the way over there to pick up a bass that sounds drastically different. And the slight differences you guys have mentioned make me want the Aero's more than the lakeland pickups.

Time to negociate :D

i'm resurrecting an old thread here, but i've got the same question on my lakland - does it have lakland pickup or aero's?

i bought my skyline DJ about a year and half back, and i just removed one of the pickups and there's no name or logo anywhere to be found.

anyone know how to tell the difference between the two so i can figure out which pickups my DJ has?

You bought it new a year and a half ago? Laklands. They made the switch in late 06/early 07. I'm sure there's a way to look at them and tell, but I don't know what it is.

Most who have compared the two side-by-side seem to report that the Aero's are a little more aggressive, meaning a little more mid-present and grindy, which IMO is a good thing, and even necessary for a 70's style jazz bass.

for those like me who weren't sure if they got aero's or lakland pickups in their bass, i emailed lakland tech support and got this response...

"Check out the lead wires from the pickup. The Aero's have black and white vinyl covered wires. The Lakland's have black, red and green wires."
