If you are talking about a real 75 (mid 70s) Jazz bass versus a reissue 75 Jazz bass, the difference is tone. The reissue doesn't sound like a real 75, for whatever reason.
those MIJ/CIJ 75 RI's have 60's pickup spacing, only thing that make them 70's jazzes is blocks and binding, ash bodies and few other details like 3 bolt neck plate.. not sure about USA models though.
Ya gotta wonder why the 75 RI does not have the 70's pup spacing?

I'd take a clean, straight, real one in a heartbeat over a reissue.
So would I - so that I could sell it for a mint and then get something that was better made.![]()
I don't know why the Japanese '75 Reissues have '60s spacing. Doesn't seem right if you're gonna' call it a "Reissue".
The Amer. Vintage '75 Reissue does have the '70s spacing. I've had an AV '75 Reissue for 10 years; but I've never played an actual '75 Jazz. So I don't know how they compare. I will say that the AV '75 Reissue is a sweet bass.
The Fender 75 is an amp.

Mid-70s Jazz basses are not going for big money yet. We are not talking about a pre-CBS stack knob! 2k, which is what you can get a nice 70s Jazz now will barely get you a new 75 reissue. Thanks, but I'll stick with my 76, which is the best Jazz bass I've ever had.

Question:
On the 75 Reissue wood
For both the MIA and MIJ
I'm guessing the wood used is actually Northern Ash and not a lighter ash (like swamp ash).
Is this true can anyone confirm this (or should this be a separate thread altogether?)
