Differences between Neck on Warwick 4 string basses

Hey,

So, as an on-going experiment, I have decided to play every good 4 string bass I can lay my hands on to get a better sense of the kind of neck shape and feel I'd like ideally.

So, today I had the chance to play 2 Warwick 4 string basses.

1) A fretless Thumb BO

2) A Fretted Streamer Jazzman

I understand of course that are differences between a fretted and a fretless neck.

But I loved the neck on the Thumb. It felt amazing. On the other hand, the neck on the Streamer Jazzman felt clunky and too thick. Almost a huge U shape neck.

I didn't know Warwick made different necks for different basses.

I checked their website and it says that every 4 string neck has their standard dimensions.

I'm confused now.

Can some people with a great idea of experience with Warwick basses help me out here ?

I'd like to know more about the Thumb BO neck.

Thanks.

Warwick offers 3 different neck profiles for 4-string basses. There is a 4th option for 5 and 6 string basses - the Broadneck. You can find information and pictures on the Warwick website options page, here: Invalid Link Removed

The Thumb BO comes with the standard neck profile, which in the link I gave you above is the C-shape profile. It is 19.5mm at the first fret and 25mm at the 12th fret. It sounds like the Streamer Jazzman you played has the Fatneck, which is U-shaped. Hope this helps!
