Different Rig for different Gigs?

My main rig for everything was an Ampeg SVT 6Pro and an Avatar 410 Neo. It was overkill for most shows. Now my EVERYGIG rig is a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 and an Avatar 210 Neo. I just add a 2nd Avatar 210 for large halls and outdoors. Usally only use FOH for the larger shows.

Absolutely. It’s a reason to buy more gear. I have several rigs for multiple gig needs, some of which I never needed. But I’m ready if the occasion should ever arise.

I have multiple cab/amp combinations based on venue size, or the style of music. Gigging with roadies and trailers where I’m not lifting it brings another set of rules as well.

My gear runs from micro rigs like the Trace Elliot ELF/10” micro cab, to multiple Ampeg SVT fridges.

99.9% of my gigs involve foh support, so I never have to worry about carrying a room.

Never once have I separated gear based on whether it would smell or not. A lot of casinos still have smoking but the clubs don’t. Cigarette smoke never really bothered me with gear. I can understand how this might bother some though.

I've got that "always prepared boy scout" mentality, too! Now if only I could get a little old lady to help me get my gear across the street...

About the smoke smell thing. In a previous band where I was running sound, we landed a gig at a posh resort (Loggerheads at Hammock Beach, for those in NE Florida) in a non-smoking room. We'd "febreezed" the carpeted cabs and they didn't reek horribly (it helped that our last gig was outdoors). But when I opened the PA rack (a plastic 16ru Gator rack) and powered it up, it smelled like an ashtray. The cooling fans in the amps only served to blow the stink around. I went to the mens room, sprinkled some of the hand-towels with the cologne they had and that covered it enough to get us through. The next day though, when I opened the rack, it smelled like smoky cologne.

I pulled everything out and since it was about time for regular cleaning/maintenance anyway, I opened things up and cleaned all the pots, faders, and connections. All the while, I was thinking of ways to alleviate the stink problem. And then the wife suggested kitty litter. Hmmm, I thought. I went to the store, grabbed some unscented kitty litter with chlorophyll and a pair of pantyhose. I made up several "sachet" packets (think big silica desiccant packets) and tossed them into the rack, my keyboard cases, etc. I have never had the problem since. I've even stored carpeted monitors and smaller speakers in large plastic garbage bags with the litter packets. And I'm sure it helps keep the moisture down as well.

I mounted my head to my pedal board, so I use that set up for everything outside of my house. I change up basses depending on size of the stage and number of other bands throwing gear around. I'm kind of protective of my one bass, so I don't use it if I foresee a problem. I use the same cabs for everything. 90% of the time one, but sometimes two if it's outside or we're sharing backline.

I don't think I own a piece of gear that hasn't had beer spilled on it. I've just learned to not be as anal about everything except for my basses.

Don't think I've ever worried about "stinky", though.

B|Amp and HG410 for most, or Aggy TH500 with same 410 if load in/access is difficult.
Fender Super Bassman or Orange AD200B with same cab or Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115s for big 'uns.
Or...... mix n match for ships n giggles

I have a D 250 watt head and 2 cabinets. SWR pro 12 cabinet and a SWR WM15 cabinet. Small joints get the 12", small outdoor stuff gets the 15" I am not fortunate enough to be able to play thru the sound system. Our places are small so 250 watts is more than enough.

Yes, I do. But not based on how the rig looks...but based upon what my needs for the particular gig are volumewise and tonewise...

I have different setups but for different volume requirements, not looks or smells.
100W head and 30W head, two 1x15 cabs. Can have various arrangements depending on volume needs and stage footprint requirements. Haven’t used the 30W at a gig yet as I just got it a couple months back, but plan to use it more at smaller gigs and ones with good PA support.

Big stage, small stage, big outdoor stage tour shows, small stages at the local animal club or bar....same set-up....old, old, old, 4 string Fender passive jazz bass into a old Sans Amp Bass Driver into a old Mesa M-6 Carbine head into a old Bergantino NV-610 cabinet.
Always have FOH support, even when it's not needed!

My entire inventory of amplification gear is comprised of two identical Walter Woods stereo heads, two identical Euphonic Audio VL-208 cabs, and two identical EA VL-110 cabs. Every gig I play involves some combination of one of the WW heads (bridged or unbridged) and one or two of the EA cabs.

That cabinet was preceded by a EA VL-208, which incidentally now belongs to Interps son. It's a small world after all. I now use either a powered
MAS 1/8 and the Grace Felix or a MAS 4x5, Monique M700 and the Grace.

The primary differences, are the weight 23 vs 28 lbs for the VL-108. It will go quite a bit louder and the low end is better.

For practice at home I use a Vox amPlug2 or Ampeg BA108 with headphones. Rehearsals, Duos or small gigs without drums and/good FOH either the BA108 mic’d or Ampeg BA210. Small clubs (generally smokeless down here now) the BA210 (with Hartke HD150 as a backup in the truck), large shows or outdoor gigs get the GK 400RB with the Ampeg 810 fridge.

One amp for small rooms.
Add extension cabinet for medium rooms.
I don’t feel it’s my fiscal responsibility to provide an amp capable of driving a large venue. I bring my little amp as a stage monitor, and let the PA provide the house sound.

I am not a big bar fan and find that a "Funky" smell is starting to permeate my gear. Thus my question...

Nope. But I don't play in venues with smells. BTDT.

I have one rig for all gigs and rehearsals. Tiny little bugger too.

Depending on the size of the room or stage, I definitely mix it up. When I'm being lazy, it's my GK MB500 on my Aggie S410. That's assuming we don't needs subs. Those are 2 Bag End S18b-d's. Then I would run my rack with a Crest Pro Lite 3.0 with 1 side for the subs, other for my cab, plus one of several pre's I have. I was recently gifted a Bag End D15 XD I haven't used yet. I can also use a Fender Pro 610 insted of the Aggie if required. Also in the mix is a racked SWR Working Pro 700 I use on occasion, for kicks. The Bag End 18's sound great as a large rig also. I'm 57 years old and load and unload most of this gear myself, plus I provide most of the lights. I'm a little guy at 5.8 and after 7 years of doing this, it's getting old!
