Double Bass different sitting height when playing solo's?

I've been struggling with my sitting position and my teacher made me lower my stool and the endpin to the bottom so now i'm sitting with both feet on the ground, really comfy!
The only thing i have trouble with is that i want to have it a little little bit higher when playing solo so my shoulder won't be on the way and a little bit lower when practicing orchestral etc.
Is it just to experiment or do you guys have any suggestions?
thanks!

Here's a thought, for solo playing pull the endpin out significantly farther so the bass will be at a sharper angle. For orchestral playing put the endpin in very short, or all the way in, so that the bass is more vertical. Experiment with that until you find what works best.

Yeah, but i have to endpin fully in always! Im sitting with both feet on the ground.

I would suggest getting used to one position. If reach continues to be an issue in the extreme high range, then look at modifying the way you sit, but learning how to get around your instrument with your existing setup is important.

A lot of people get into modifying setups heavily for solo playing, or even getting a totally different, smaller bass for the job, but i think that's all a little foolish. The best soloists I've seen live don't have any particular "solo bass", or solo setup. I got to handle one soloist's bass for a while at a summer camp (he's intstructor there), and His strings were crazily high off the fingerboard. I could stick my thumb under his low string without touching it or the fingerboard. It's all in technique, and one can get used to any bass (sow's ear or silk purse).

Cheers from Canada. I hope the snow's gone there in Sweden. The last of ours melted this past week, and we're hoping for leaves on the trees soon.
