The VT was one of my first, if not my first bass pedal, and I loved the tubey tone.
As I built-up my pedal collection, I found that it didn't play nice with other pedals and it was tricky to work it in. I actually had it for sale for a while, but I decided to keep it and move it WAY up in the pedal chain, next to my tuner, for tone shaping only. It works great there, and just fills up my tone nicely and adds a nice tubey warmth.
I have an XXL way down the line for distortion and those are my dirt pedals, although I wouldn't consider the VT as dirt for the way I use it.
I would recommend experimenting with it, because it is very sensitive and needs some tweaking.
But, if you don't like it, that's cool. I was considering an M80, but the XXL came my way and it fits in well for what I need.
