Yup, it's been released...003, 003r info is up now. For those of you (and me) who were/are PTLE users, one piece of advice from someone who had to deal with it first hand: wait until the first batch has been sampled and the bug reports come back in. I got a 002r with the bad wire harness, and didn't appreciate the fact that I had to deal with it myself.

Still, aside from that, they do look appealing. New pres, new converters...hmmmmm......

bleh very weak in my opinion. They added bnc connectors and an extra headphone jack, that was not worth the 3 year wait. It helped my make my decision go to with lynx aurora converters instead of a new 003. Ive heard the pres and converters are not gonna be any better. Even digi's high end pres suck. Thank god for pro tools or theyd go under cuz their hardware isnt doing it anymore.

Are the Digi pre's that bad!? I thought they were pretty good compared to alot of the stuff I've heard...

I don't think they are necessarily "bad," but there are other pres available out there for comparable prices that are better. I haven't tried them all (and it would definitely depend on the application) but Focusrite, Presonus, Grace (pricey, but really good/clean sound) and others are worth looking into. I used a Grace 101 pre for VO work, into the 002r.

what I thought, granted I like having different pres available. The pres in the 002 work fine a lot of times, but there is something real nice about having an FMR RNP around, and I would like to try the grace. Mics just sound different going through different pres, and that is good.

Oh yeah, about the 003, doesn't look like that much of a step up. But then again, didn't really think I needed to upgrade. Cool to hear about the alternative as well. Rawk.

for some reason I thought the 002 pres were focusrites?

From what I remember (it's been a while), they were designed by Focusrite, just as the Digi ProControl was IIRC. I always had the experience that though the pres in Digi (lower level) hardware were suitable, I had better results with other pres. Of course, I was mainly doing voiceover and such. Dedicated Focusrite pres just sounded better to me.

I've been scanning Sweetwater's site as well as Digi's, and all I can come up with at the moment is that the 003 pres are redesigned and are supposed to be a big step up. I'd be curious to hear results...

When I used first used the digi 001 when it first came out I remember the grainy nature of the mic pres on board, ...and used an outboard pre instead when it was PT 5.1 or so.... .But when I upgraded to PT6.4 later, for some reason the graininess went.....might have been the increased headroom.
