DiMarzio DP127 Or 1/4 Pounders

I've been looking to upgrade the pickups on my MIM P-bass for quite some time and think I have narrowed it down to two options.

Which would you recommend?

I would like a pickup that would be able to dial in a Geezer Butler-Steve Harris sound (Yes, I know Steve Harris uses 1/4 pounders) but i would rather have a pickup that nails either the Geezer or Harris sound than one that is mediocre at both. I know that the quarter pounders have a lot of fans (and a lot of haters too) but at this point I am leaning towards the Dimarzios. Also, do some pickups sound better with flatwounds than with roundwounds? Because right now I am using rotosound Steve Harris siggie strings (flats) and I do not forsee myself switching to another kind. Any other pickup suggestions are appreciated, I would like to find a set of pickups that is <$100.

I thought the QPs were harsh when i tried out a bass that had them in it. I'd imagine flatwounds would tame them down a bit.

Doesn't Steve Harris use flats?

I'm not really sure if the Split P is what you're looking for, though. But I've never tried to get those sounds out of mine.

That said, I love the Split P. It's a fantastic pickup.

I've been using the Quarter Pounder on my old P bass for 10 years or more with flats. Great sound. I replaced the DiMarzios that were in the bass with the QP. The DiMarzio wasn't bad, just a little bit weak compared to the QP. Others disagree of course.

I don't get a harsh sound at all. I probably could if I tried hard enough I guess or didn't know what I was doing. I usually use GK amps. No effects or compression. Straight from the bass to the amp. It's all part of a package. I haven't tried the Steve Harris strings. I use Thomastic flats.
