Dimarzio Model J - Split Coil ?

Hi ,

I have a MIM Jazz Bass , but have been craving a bit of that P Bass punch. I have heard that the Dimarzio Model J is a split coil inside a Jazz Bass pickup , is this true ? Also does it sound anything like a p bass ?(even a p bass on steroids type vibe would be ok)

dude! u shud have searched first!!! but anywayz, im gonna install the dimarzio model Js in my bass. im looking 4 a similar sound as u r, also have the same type of bass!

basically u can get the pickups wired in series, which makes em sound like a p pickup, each model J is a humbucker as well, so u can (this wot im gonna do) for instance wire the neck pickup in series 4 fatness and wire the bridge pickup in parallel 4 more mids/treble. i believe!

Yes. The Dimarzio Model J is a split coil pickup, like a P bass pickup.

So is the Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickup.

phunku is right, you can wire these pickups up in series or parallel, or even put series/parallel switches on your bass so you can change them on the fly.

Also does it sound anything like a p bass ?

I can't speak from personal experience, but do some searching in this forum. In their giant J pickup review, Bass Player magazine called Model Js "the Marshall killer." I think that phrase says a lot about how much punch they have.

No, it will not sound like a P-bass It will sound huge for sure, but not like a P-bass.
