On Englehart... There's a dimple on the top above where the soundpost is. It's not breaking or splitting. Bass is 10 yrs old. I'm concerned about what will happen in the future. Will it eventually crack or split open the top?

Is it bulging outward? The soundpost is too long. Have it trimmed a little, or a new post fitted.

Does it have a ply disc between the post and top? If not, have one made and fitted. Should be one on the back as well.
I've never seen a recent Engel with a reinforcing disc. However, my first bass was a hardy German (Hofner?) plywood that came into my possession with a noticeable bulge in the back from an overly long soundpost. I had the post refitted and no more problem.

I've not seen one in an Engel but they are very common in plywood basses. It's been my experience that a bulge stresses the laminations and may eventually result in the soundpost coming through. I've seen student (school) basses with weak and deformed tops and the posts are set in strange positions because they happen to be the 'undamaged' places. The fix is always a round piece of thin ply glued to the top.
I've personally owned two plys that had this issue.
FWIW, my '67 Kay has discs on the top and back which appear to be original.
