Distortion/OD/Fuzz/ Climaxes

1st timer here.

I've been searching through the Effects board for several hours now as well as youtubing, googling, etc. sound samples.

The band I'm playing in is in that ilk of having distorted tremelo-riffed reverb/delay drenched climaxes on guitar but also sludgy-doom breaks as well.

What I need is a bass pedal (or combination of two) during these parts.

I've been thinking and searching through these: Bass Big Muff, Russian Muff, Hematoma, Messdrive, Boss HM-2, Boss ODB-3. I was also thinking of getting the Sansamp Bass Driver to use as a preamp and keeping that on all the time anyway, and then use one of these OD or Fuzzes to supplement during the climaxes.

Oh yeah, and maybe a Boss OC-2 as part of a combination with one of the aforementioned.

Some bass tones from bands that come to mind are Neurosis, Godflesh, Jesu, Slint, Mogwai, Torche, and My Bloody Valentine to an extent.

Well that's similar to the kind of music I'm trying to make... I use a VT-Bass as my preamp, with a modded Bad Monkey, Boss HM-2 and a Supercollider.

Here's a clip of the VT Bass + Bad Monkey + HM-2. I have some clips of the Supercollider somewhere too, it's brilliant for wall-of-sound-doom-fuzz. For fuzz I'd definitely recommend either the Supercollider or the Fuzzrocious Green Stache!

Clean delay-laden tremolo-picked guitars on top of balls-out fuzz bass sounds wicked.

I can agree with both of these statements. I use both a Green Stache and a Supercollider and love em both. I use the Supercollider for a smoother bass heavy fuzz and the Green Stache as a chaotic balls out fuzz. Love em both.

The succession and changes in that clip were really cool. Overall, I'm totally digging it. Thank you for the suggestions.

Jonathan from Torche uses/used a Black Russian Big Muff Pi on the last recording. He told me he was not happy w/ it. It only really goes from muddy to mor muddy, so definitely steer clear of that. Too many downsides to it...

GGG-tuned muff is VERY versatile.
The Green Russian is versatile too, but doesn't go to the blistering end of the spectrum like the GGG-tuned muff does.
I am LOVING the Triangle version Big Muff right now A LOT! Heavy is Hell.

The Supercollider is a wicked pedal. VERY versatile and has lots of knobs if you are a tweaker. The knobs do move easily though. Memorize your settings haha.

Unless you have $ and real estate available, I would try to find just one pedal that will get you the versatility you seek.

Awesome insight man.

I was checking out all the Fuzzrocious vids on myspace just now and am really digging the sounds from the Green Stache. I have a question regarding the Triangle, Ram's Head, Violet Ram's head, and Late 70's indications on the myspace page. Pardon my ignorance, are those like different builds to choose from when ordering a Green Stache or totally different pedals?

Whe do we get a triangle muff vid? What is done to it? Is it a variation on the GGG?

Also money grows on trees so with it you need to buy real estate and more pedals :hiding:

Bassenstein (Jeff) - The Triangle muff w/ mids boost/cut switch video is up and running on the myspace. The triangle version is one of the original versions that EHX made. It's hella bassy in a good way. Very doomy and fuzzy. The GGG-tuned version has more high grit gain on tap with some more mids. The mids mod we do can add the mids in, but personally on my board, I'm not going to do any mids boosting. I'll just turn up louder to be heard ;).

gab - Totally different pedals. Different kinds of muff versions. Different enclosures or my wife paints whatever you want on there.
