I like the idea of an Octave pedal into filter pedal with Q and resonance -- do you have ideas for either one of those? (I don't know pedals that well.)

Pretty much anything with Q & R controls can find and emphasize a low sub-harmonic freq. I have an odd-ball EHX Tube Zipper that does it really well and an Aguilar Filter Twin with its threshold turned down chokes the signal quite a bit, not letting it blossom into a full quack and only the 'dub' gets through. The MXR M82 has wet/dry blend which would be useful for this. I'm not sure which others might.

The size of the speaker seems to he your focus, but the performance specs of the speaker as well as the dimensions of the box, port tuning, etc are way more important than 15, 18, 12, 10, etc. If you build the right cab with the correct speakers, two 8s will crush a 15 that doesn't have the right specs.

I have the tone I’m looking for. I’m thankful for the advice. I am only interested in filling the shows that don’t have proper PA support. I dig the 15/15/6/6 idea. Maybe two 15/6 cabs would be more versatile. Thanks again for the advice.

You don't need a sub. For dub and reggae you need a bass rig that can move a ton of air in the 50-100Hz region.

If you just focus on the lows, i.e. the fundamentals, then you're essentially playing sine waves. People won't know it's a bass until you add in some mid bass and mid range. The tone is in the mids, the lows are just sine waves.

You can try this with a software EQ and some headphones. Cut out everything except the lows and it won't have any character. Add some mids and it sounds like a bass.

For the drivers they use, the fEarful's really get this woofer to mid balance as better or as best as you're going to get from any other bass cabinet.
