Double Bass Diy built in preamp

i was wondering if there was any one out there who could tell me how to make a built-in pre-amp for my custom electric fiberglass double bass. it needs to be able to fit into a slot in the side of the bass, which is about roughly about 5"-10" inches (it isn't actually made, i needed the preamp ). if it could change tone, volume, and had a headphone jack, that would be awesome.

If you plan on making a home made preamp, check out FDecks' DIY Preamp. I had to build one as I could buy one & used his schematics. The basic preamp works great & he has a lot of great suggestions for improving it.
