I have the neck from a broken cheapo EUB lying around. I've decided to revive it as a coffin bass figuring that if it doesn't sound that great I still have a cool Halloween decoration.

I was looking for some opinions on construction. The top and bottom will be 1/4" ply but I'm not sure about the sides. Do you think 1" x 7" solid wood or a 1" x 2" frame with 1/8" plywood over it would be better?

You may want to let weight of the finished instrument be a primary consideration in your choice of materials. After all, someone is going to have to schlepp the beast around. Try a Google Images search for 'homemade upright bass" to get some design ideas.
