DIY Combo

Well I was thinking of making a cheap combo (one that is lightweight and doesn't cost much) that sounds better than my Rumble 15. I'm not sure on the head that I am going to be using yet, but I was looking at these all range speakers [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

They are small I know, I don't expect to give them each their claimed 70 RMS watts either. I'm thinking about getting 4 of them and throwing them like 100 watts RMS total and making a small DIY combo.

My question is, will 100 watts be too much for 4 of these running through a bass guitar since they are only 5.25" yet claim to be all range speakers?

They'll blow in a heartbeat. The power rating is immaterial, what counts is sensitivity and excursion, and since these are low end hi-fi drivers they don't have what it takes to handle electric bass.

Hi.

The fact that the speakers seem to have most of the T/S parameters published is a definite advantage, You can model them in any speaker design program.

HOWEVER the 86,7dB sensitivity means that they're rather power hungry, that 100W of Yours won't move much air even if there's 4 of them. Fs of 72Hz isn't much better.

A rather crappy (for bass) and discontinued Eminence Gamma would be IMHO a better choice, the price range is the same as four of those smaller ones. Better yet, 10" Deltalite. That speaker could see another application down the road as well. These ones You suggested probably wouldn't.

Between that and Link Removed what's the difference other than...
1. 5 oz. magnet difference
2. RMS handling
3. Speaker Size

I mean, other than that aren't the specs basically the same?

When we say "speaker specs" or "T/S specs" there are about 20 numbers specified. These specs dictate the size of the proper cabinet, its port dimensions, and other info about the speaker.

Wattage is only one number of many, and less important than most.

The allaudioexpo one doesn't have specs published at all.

The partsexpress one has an Xmax of 4.0mm, which means it can safely move the cone enough to reproduce electric bass.
