DIY thoughts.......

I was planning on making a TL-606 with a 3015 soon, as my third DIY cab. Then I saw these.
They have low handling, but decently high efficiency. I use exclusively low-power amps, so the power isn't a problem, and the sensitivity of a pair of these is 2.5db shy of the 3015. Also, these cost $40 each.
They have been used as SVT speakers by other TBers, with good results. I have modelled them in WinISD, and other than a midbass hump, they look good.

So, speaker gurus, could these be a good, cheap way to get my own micro SVT cab(s)? I love the tone of the old SVT-810es, and these claim to hit the 5k mark. I could also get four of them for the price of one 3015, with MF discounts, and four would surpass the 3015s sensitivity and allow me to push 4ohms.

well you'll never get 3015 results out of the jensen mods but no doubt a handful of people have tried them in svt's and really liked them. as long as you're not going to pump 1000w into them, why not? worst that happens is you waste a bunch of money.

:D

The issue is not maximum SPL for me, I like using little heads. I borrow a Super Bass (100W) a lot of the time, and I'm working with that in mind.

At 100W, four of these will get more loud than a 3015, for cheaper. I could also potentially get a pair of SVT style mini cabs for the price of one of Ampeg's own.

I pay the price in flexibility using the cabs with bigger amps and a loss in portability.

Come early spring (My workshop is my garage, and it's much to cold here to work yet) I'll make the call. These are a big contender, but I'll keep window shopping.

I'm not sure that sound right. 4 x 100 watt amps louder than one. You'd have to make sure everything is in phase for a start. I've tried two amp together a 102 and 280 and they didn't sound as loud as attching the speaker form the smaller amp to the bigger and just running 280watts, so intuitively I think you're wrong. Anyone want to chip in here?

One amp, T. The 100W would be driving all four Jensens.

Ultimately, I decided against this plan, as the form factor of a 3015 is appealing.

Your first post made it seem like you had more power (my bad for misunderstanding) in which case the 3015 makes sense. But if you only have 100w it doesn't, you'd be better off with the higher sensitivity of four tens. Not necessarily the Mods, as they'll only take 15 watts or so each before farting out, but four tens nonetheless. I'd put them in two 2x10 vertically arrayed.

Thanks Bill, but how about in the form factor of a 115 3015 cab? (Size mainly) I just hauled out the good old 412 yesterday, sounds fine and not too heavy but large and inefficient!

I know power handling and sensitivity have a very loosely inverse relationship, are there any single drivers that significantly surpass the 3015 with less power handling as a consequence? I'm thinking there aren't, but you'd know.
