DIY Tube Combo

I didn't find anything on this in the stickies, but I had been flipping through a music gear magazine and wondered why guitards get all the tube combo amps.

DIY speaker cabs are common around here and I'm looking at putting together a fEaRB soon, but why not build in a maybe 50-100W tube amp into the head? Sure I could make it an airhead and put a Craigslist special Peavey or something in there, but that wouldn't be as fun, would it?

Are there established resources specifically for building a bass tube amp? Has anyone here done it, and maybe post some photos?

On a slightly unrelated-but-I-just-thought-to-ask note, how do tube amps respond to extended range bass? I love the sound but I'm not wanting to haul a 40-120lb head around with me everywhere, so this would be my shot at tubes, but the bass I'm going to be building to accompany the fEaRB has an F# on it.. too muddy? Does it even matter?
