DL1608 router and guitar wireless interference

I just got a Line 6 G30 and was testing it out today along side my Mackie DL1608 before using it at the gig tomorrow. When I had the g30's receiver next to the wireless router for the mackie, the g30 cut out and didn't track my playing well. When I moved the g30 away from the router all seemed well. I am worried that out at a club I may have more problems with the club's wireless router, people's cell phones, etc.
I don't understand how digital wireless devices work, if they are sharing bandwidth, can interrupt each other and that sort of thing.
Any advice before I go to the gig?

it is an issue, they're all sharing 2.4G wi-fi.

(fwiw, i use a G50 and a mackie 1608 with a pos 2.4G router all the time with no problems, but the two wi-fi boxes are not sitting right next to each other.)

a switch to a 5G router will get you into a clearer, less crowded space for the ipad.

Walter, do you have the router and the G50 on different channels?

And yes, we started putting our routers for digital consoles on 5gHz and that solved all our interference problems. I was worried about the range thing operating in 5g, but that hasn't been a problem.

We have a few of these floating around. I like them fine and the guys report good range and signal strength with them...

I also have an Apple Airport Extreme router which works a lot better for live stuff than I figured it would. It stays at the house these days. Hey, I'm an Apple guy I had to have one.

And finally, for the really outrageous and if you have deep pockets, give this Asus unit a spin. The boss bought one for the office. I can be driving up a block away and my iPhone starts picking this thing up. It's a beast!

These are the ones I've run across that work well. There's a truckload more out there that are fine. Not to mention, a new version comes out every few months, upping the technology, but making last month's really good unit come down in price.

hell, i dunno; routers got channels? :oops:

the router is a dirt-cheap belkin, while my relay G50 has 12 "channels" of its own. (the G50's channels are more about not interfering with someone else's G50, i have no idea how or if that translates to any kind of "channels" on the router.)

Routers have channels, they automatically switch channels, when they can get two channels they can really fly. In crowed wi-fi spaces you never get the full advertised bandwidth and throughput.

That said, routers play by rules, and so does line-6, other stuff may not.
Look at the front of a microwave oven, which also runs in the 2.4ghz band, It's a metal box. there's a metal plate in the front with holes to see light through, but too small to let microwaves through.

If you need to put stuff close together use some metal for shielding. That's what they do on the inside of gear.

I'm getting more inference lately through my Sennheiser G3 wireless rig. It is in the B (626 range). I am using a Sennheiser XSW35 wireless mike in the same B range as well. They are not near each other in the band. I have noticed my G30 kick out on occasion. I am using a standard Apple router. My G30 receiver is on my pedal box on the floor while the apple and Dl1608 is in a gig bag on my amp. sigh so much wireless.

Everything worked well. The router is in the blank space above my bass cabinet. ( I took the head out of the combo and racked it,as it's easier to move, and that shelf is rather handy.)
I put the line 6 receiver on the floor underneath my cabinet.
Come to think of it, I've always kept my in ear receiver (AKG) on that shelf next to the router and never have problems.

I think you can change the channels on either the router or the Line 6 transmitter and solve this problem. Also, use the 5Ghz range on yer router, if possible.

It's something we deal with a fair amount with bands and our iPad-controlled digital consoles.

I use a net gear dual band. I put the Mackie mixer on the 5g band and my lighting (iPad, running Luminair, eDMXKing interface) on the 2.4g band.

If I take a Presonus, I just create a network on the Mac and link the iPad to that for the board. The Lighting rig stays on the router.
