A semi hollow isn't quite the same. That said, I love my little Dano Longhorn.

That's just like my baby! I relocated the top strap button to the upper horn. Tremendous improvement.

Been using an early 60s Danelectro/Silvertone for 40 years, not my #1 but barrels of fun to play at certain types of gigs. They have the advantage of no sound holes so they are very feedback resistant.

A semi-hollow was my only bass for more than 20 years until I figured out that a late '60s EB-2 probably should be schlepped around in a gig-bag. I still have it, and it is still not broken. Proof that there's a providence that looks after idiots.

Even though my P-bass style Lindert is technically a semihollow, I too am always gassing for the more traditional jazzbox style ones. I have loved the Warwick Starbass (32”) and the Reverend Dub King (30”), and recently played a Guild Starfire (also 30”) that sounded AMAZING but is just physically stupid big on me. Always wanted a Dean Cabbie (the yellow and checkerboard Stylist bass shown earlier in thread) too - those are 32” I think.

In short - get one, they’re great and come in so many flavors.

The Cabbies and the Stylists are indeed 32”. Nice scale. The bodies are a little bulky, but they are very cool basses. If you solo the neck pickup and place a foam mute, you can do a decent simulation of an upright.

You simply cannot have too many basses, or firearms or motorcycles. Take my word for it and go lightly on accumulating exes. Probably a bad life decision, in retrospect.

No exes at all. Still on wife # 1 after 45 years, 42 long guns, three electric bases, three acoustic guitars, three electric guitars, a baritone guitar, a guitarron and an upright bass. No bikes though, scared of 'em.

I tried a few times the Epi Jack Cassady, I love this bass on paper but was never confortable playing is so I forgot the idea to have one. I also had an Epiphone Zenith, but I sold it (to heavy for long gigs).

I'd love to have a hollow body bass that plays well and gets closer to the sound of an upright bass (that's a tall order). I've tried several hollow bodies out, but none of them have had the perfect combination of good feel / playability and the sound that I'm looking for.

Believe it or not, the Warwick Alien, the Martin BCPA4 and the Kala U Bass are closer to what I'm looking for sonically. But none of these has flipped my ON button.

I'd steer clear of older, cheaper models. Some of the crap that was built in the '60's was kindling at best.

This is Talkbass. You need a solid body, a chambered body, a semi hollow body, and a hollow body - one of each in 4 strings, and one of each in 5 strings. Oh, and fretless versions of all the above. You mentioned trading rifles for basses. Once you have al the basses you need, depending on where you live, you might need a bunch of rifles to protect them. Ask at Talkrifle.com about that.

Yes, you absolutely positively without any hesitation need a hollow body or possibly even a semi-hollow body bass. No question about it whatsoever. They seem to come in short scale mostly any more, but I have 32" (Dean and Gretsch) as well as 34"

I don't know why, I rarely gig or play in public much any more and when I do it's with my upright, but I've got an itch for a hollowbody bass. Doesn't matter what, it could be anything; Teisco, Greco, Silvertone, Vox -- I'd like an old Kay or Harmony but they're out of my pay scale.

Came across this today on zZounds and I have to say I am flabbergasted.

Last time I was on the Ibby website they pretty much indicated that the distressed versions of the AGB200 and AFB200 were done for 2018 [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (as far as new or updated versions), but still showed the AFB200 and AGB200 available from how it has looked from the past few years prior to 2018, which I am assuming are really new leftover inventory.

This is where I came across this. I am a sucker for Natural Finish. I already own the Honey Violin Burst version of this which is a real looker, but this new version is causing some serious G.A.S. issues for me.
