Guitarists are fine. Bad musicians? Yes I hate them.

The guitar is a victim of its own popularity, it attracts a lot of people who are playing music for the wrong reasons. If the flute was the most popular instrument on the planet, you all would be railing against flutists day in and day out.

^ This. Yes, there certainly is a difference. A guitarist knows his job, and does it. No problems, hassels, or " hot dogging". A guitard on the other hand is, well, a guitard.

So I guess I'm the only one who would rather play with an average accordion player than a good guitarist. Because when it comes down to it that's what I choose to do.

In my time as a bassist, I have met only two guitarists I actually liked, and one is only a hobbyist, the other is just a cool guy.

The rest are lying, egotistical jerks.

Agreed. Not all guitarists are guitards.

The one in my band isn't, though he used to have some guitarded moments, the most notable of which was constantly detuning to drop D and start playing some riff by some band randomly in rehearsal when we were trying to get stuff done. That stopped basically when I told him quietly that I would prefer to play in standard (this was very much MY band at the time) while giving him a look that probably made him think I was about to kill him. He'd only been playing a year then.

That was years ago. Now he's an excellent musician and my favorite one to work with.

I don't really...I can't really. My bass playin' boyfriend had to start playing the guitard in his band-cause the new hire singer is a bass player...I joke with my guy that the guitard sounds too whiny. but he knows I am jokin'. I really do prefer the low sounds better tho!

I couldn't care less about it, but I would honestly prefer playing music that doesn't need a guitar so much (such as Jazz) if only for the change of pace it provides.

Take this question and turn it around, how many bands have auditioned sucky bass players? Finding a good bassist is a monumental feat for a band folks.
Finding one that will commit and show up is another, they tend not to have the raging ego issues though.

We are far fewer than the guitarist in general, many assume bass is the easiest instrument and give it little respect. Some that suck, can become good players later. You generally cannot teach a guitard to be a cool person later though

Drummers have similar opinions towards the singers and guitards as we do, but focusing on your craft will make you more worthy of cooler folks and better players. You can improve that part.

Then you can pick who to play with, rather than dealing with a jerk. I'd rather be a solo artist if that is the only choice
