Do you buy CDs?

I still buy many cds...or a used LP if that's the only route.

What I buy from iTunes-
>Albums that aren't available or only available at a stoopid import price (e.g. Chicago's Live In Japan or Esperanza Spaulding's Junjo).
>New Country things I have to learn for one of my bands...big savings for me as I used to buy the whole album to learn one cut.

I buy CDs when I want a whole album - if I only have to learn one song I don't have I'll just buy that one song from iTunes.

Yep, still buy them. Most of the time I'll try and find a CD I want in a used CD section, but I'll buy it new if it's what I really want. I like having something physical, and I like album booklets. Plus my car only has a CD player, so I use them in that.

Let me know when you guys are next doing shows... I'll bring a laptop along and borrow one of your CD's from the Merch stand. After I've ripped it (it'll only take a few seconds, and you can watch me do it so I don't steal the CD) you can have it back. If any one else there wants a copy I can burn them a free copy to save them the hassle of having to buy one from you (and save you having to take their cash).

I still buy CDs, vinyl, and 8-tracks. I will not buy DRM, I will not do business with Apple, Amazon, or shady Russian MP3 sites.

ITunes? Cmon, more money for less data, it has DRM, and only plays on Apple players. Forget that stuff.

Of course, modern mastering is awful, with CDs compressed to have less dynamic range than vinyl. But other modern formats are even crappier sounding, so I buy CDs anyway.

I buy CDs, although I've tapered my buying off in recent years because I've been running out of space to store them in. I sometimes buy songs from iTunes and other online sources. I refuse to steal any.

A lot of the times I will buy a cd just 'cause my internet connection is unstable and I get tired of waiting and configuring stuff. I actually bought a U2 greatest hits cd. I like going to used cd shops where prices are reasonable.

I will also throw my wallet at the merch table of a band that's really impressed me. It's cool when you can get albums autographed. It makes the band feel like they are hot stuff.

BUT...I do have an external HDD that I dress up like a pirate ship and raid friends computers with. He he he.

I buy CDs when I can, and I prefer CDs. I like to read the inlays and look at album art. However there is a lot of music I enjoy that I cant get in my area. Nebraska is not exactly the place to be for underground black-metal so I use a little bit of downloading to get the rare stuff.

I exclusively buy CDs, they are both cheaper than on the iTunes store (if you look in the right places) and I like to have something I can hold and won't be destroyed by a hard drive failure. That said, I rip all of my my music to AAC for quick access.

I'm an Old Dog: I want a tangible product to hold in my hands in exchange for my money. So I don't download tunes.

The fact that I haven't bought a CD in ages isn't really germane to this issue...or is it?

I buy a lot of used CDs.... I rip at a much higher rate than most 'download' sources, so I prefer a CD. I have recently started buying Amazon and cdbaby downloads

Like a number of other posters, I prefer to have a physical product, so I buy CDs all the time. I tried to get into the iTunes thing, but I didn't take to it very well.

I'll buy vinyl if I happen to run across something interesting.

Same here. I have yet to buy anything from iTumes, but my son is all the time buying and DLing from iTunes.

We have a great used CD/vinyl shop here in town, and I really like browsing the aisles looking for CD's. Sometimes to buy, other times just to bring back old memories. I remember buying CD's and cassette tapes as a teenager at Tower Records. It was a regular part of my life on paydays and weekends with my friends.To me, the CD case always told a story or brings back a memory from when I was younger.

I have a digitial music library, but my truck has a CD player. I still dig grabbing a CD and sliding it into the stereo and listening to the motorized tracks grab the disc and load it up to play. Then you have that pause for 5-10 seconds while the stereo displays "LoadinG".

I buy straight off Itunes 95% of the time for instant gratification. I also do the whole Ipod thing in my car. In the age of the internet, who cares about booklets and liner notes? You can get all that stuff by googling anyway. If I can't find what I want from Itunes I check out eBay.

The only exception is if I want funk/soul music from the 60's and 70's. I will try to buy that stuff on vinyl first from Amoeba or Ebay. That music is so much better on vinyl to my ears. Analog/tape/vinyl makes for some seriously good rhythm section tones.
