Do you feel

i'd like to think that in the past 17+ years that i've played erb's exclusively (and 25 that i've played bass period) i have been a positive influence on at least a few folks, although i have no delusions about how small that influence probably has been. i've interracted with a lot of guys when they were just starting (used to have a dozen or two students during college), or later, just starting on erb, and some of them have gone on to achieve some significant success on the instrument. i'd like to think i at least had a positive impact on that - i know most of those same guys have had a positive impact and influence on me. i've had some folks from all over the world contact me privately and tell me that my music has inspired them, or even that they just enjoyed it. that's as influential as i ever wanted to be, tbh, if not in scale, then at least in scope. heh.

i also am very proud of my contributions to talkbass, which is the largest bass guitar discussion forum in the world. when i started here we had just a few members (back on the old forums) and even when i made this account some months after we changed over to the vbulletin software, we still had less htan a thousand members, no rules and no mods. my how that has changed in a decade, and i'm very proud to say i had a hand in helping that. :D

some folks might think we have too many rules, or its too stiffling in here, but i'm glad that we have a community where pros feel comfortable enough to share their knowledge, and where new folks feel comfortable enough to ask questions and learn. after all, it's not about a forum, it's about bass.

heh, no. I could if I had a proper friggin outlet but, um, no. People tell me I'm knowledgeable but I'm too aware of what I don't know to take credit for what I do.
It's a pretty tall order to make a lasting contribution of any kind these days of free information. Chances are it's been said or done before ("do a search").

Only in the sense that I've influenced the musicians around me to think differently about the instrument. It's an extremely localized phenomenon so far :)

I'm 39 but have only been playing for about 7 years. So, no I don't believe I've contributed anything to the world of bass. So far the instrument and other players have contributed a lot to me. I have hepled a few newbies, and hope to teach someday soon. I am very grateful for those who have helped me through bass, musically and personally.

I've probably helped to keep a few bass guitar and bass amp companies in business :) Everyone has some influence they impart on others. I hope I"ve done more than my share, but if I've influenced just one person to the joys of the electric bass guitar or connected with someone through my music I'll be happy.

Yes. I've had a lot of professional bassists of high esteem and many barely-knowns, sleep in my guest room. And we've cooked them a home made meal. :)

Within the small group of people that are interested in me musically, yes. Beyond that, not really. :hmm:

An old band played for a few thousand children campers a couple of years ago (Lifeway's CentriKid), but I don't really consider that "bass community". :p

I'm blessed to have taught over 1,000 students in the past 30 years. That sort of thing will make your head spin and make you feel old! I think I've made a difference in the Musical Ecology of Nashville.
