I hear music in my head all the time. Not like a crazy sort of thing. As far as I'm concerned it's a good thing. If I'm playing my bass, the music coming from my amp are my thoughts translated through my hands. If I'm not playing, music is happening in my thoughts although my hands might be doing something else. A lot of musical inspiration comes from the musical thoughts when not playing. Do you all hear the music too?

Yes. Pretty much never stops. When I'm not playing it is sometimes somebody else's composition, sometimes just an unrecognizable riff on a loop (which can be a little annoying if it's something sing-song silly, which happens sometimes). When I'm playing, it's always been my goal NOT to think about the mechanics of what I'm doing any more than I would think about the mechanics of how I whistle. ...And that's what usually happens and I think it helps the groove if I'm constantly in "adaptation to the band in real-time" mode, (both melodically and rhythmically). Of course there are SOME songs I strive to play the bassline "just like on the record" just because it's such a cool bassline.
Auditory hallucinations are the worst kind to have.

A lot of my bass riffs I hear in my head before actually ever playing them.
All the time. Usually good, sometimes bad. Sometimes random recall of something I haven't heard or thought about for 40 years. I think its good overall. Think of all the poor people who have nothing in their head.

I also play out the past, and 3 or four scenarios for the imediate future, in absolute detail, while bobbing my head. My teeth click a beat, and my breath starts beat boxing (like literally, and sub consciously). When I'm sitting, my leg takes the work of my neck. When I sleep, my feet rub back and forth through my toes.
It never stops. Since I was born.

I can't ever remember not playing music. And even when i'm not, I am composing in my head. Possession.

If it's something of mine I'm working on, it'll rattle around in my head for days.
A lot of the time I'll have an ear worm of a song I heard on the radio and it's on replay in my brain all day.
If it's a song from an album I'm familiar with, I'll play the entire LP in my head. Over and over.

When I'm short on sleep, a few seconds of the last ear-worm I heard the day before may loop relentlessly until replaced with something new.
Pretty often. Yeah.
And I often wake up with some decades old song in my head that I haven't heard or thought of in simply eons. Weird right? And I go about humming it for awhile all morning. "Morning" to me being after about 11 or noon of course. Also, in conversation or watching tv or whatever EVERYTHING I hear is likely to elicit a song reference or movie line and I pop out with it to everyone's amusement. And sometimes not.

Related problem - when people say things that are actually song lyrics I can't get the song out of my head. It's like life is a musical.
I'll add, at almost 70 I also have the luxury of a nice patina of tinnitus to go along with the never-ending setlist.
Yes, if not a song, it is a commercial, jingle, or something one of my son's old toys would play. Never a quiet moment in my mind… have had tinnitus for most of my life to fill in any blank spots.
